Internet Balls

June 21, 2010

Dealing with internet forums, it’s funny watching people hide behind their monitors and do their best to insult, attack, etc.  Yet when you confront them and ask them to email, Pm or in some cases I’ve even PM’d my phone number.  Magically you never hear from them again.

Case in point:

You are nothing but another blogging blow-hard that contradicts everything he writes. Do yourself a favor, stick to blogging with team guppy and leave your worthless ‘coaching advice’ to those that care to read your BS on your blog.

Now you have to admit this one was pretty funny.  Not the most original but still enjoyable.  This is persons response over my disagreement between SRAM XX/XO/XTR.  I’ve ridden all those drive-trains.  My breakdown:

  1. I find XO superior to XTR due to grip shifters and less finicky RDR.  My desire to move away from XTR was due to my RDR ghost shifting really bad.  It always seemed to need adjustments.  I made the switch and more than happy.  Is shifting smoother with XO over XTR?  Not that I notice, but I love grip shifters despite being nervous about moving away from triggers.  Am I a ‘shimano sucks’ ‘SRAM is awesome’ person? No.  Just a set-up that works for me.
  2. Now XO to XX is different.   I use XTR crank with XO system.  The XX is 2×9.  I ran a 2×9 on my XTR for a few years.  I rode both XO and XX on two different trails.  I did not see any difference in performance or efficiency.  Given the insane cost of XX, I see no reason to purchase the group.  (no experience with fork since Epic has own fork).

Here are my quotes: (this was to the original poster in the thread not the child that responded)

If XX is a quantum leap then I don’t think you had the gearing set up correctly on your previous drivetrain. At least for my racing style, I really saw no difference in shifting efficiency from XX to my XTR. No real weight savings. The replacement costs for XX are insane.

Wasn’t an insult but he took it that way (remember the response wasn’t even directed at him). His response:

Well I don’t have any training sheet for download and I am not a Gupster.com blogger, but I have ridden and raced for sometime to know a difference.

My retort:

not sure why you had to attack me personally, but I guess everybody’s maturity level is different as well as their need to put down somebody else just to make them feel good about themselves.

And that led up to the starting quote.  It amazes me at the level of immaturity we see in forums.  People who hide behind monitors and find the need to act like a dill-hole over nothing.  All because I don’t agree with XX.  If this all it takes to extract such childish behavior, then this person is in for a really rough life.  Almost feel bad for him.  Almost.  LOL.

I’ve invited him to continue the discussion on PM, but I’m sure I’ll never hear from him.  Like I said, they always vanish once that happens.

Swarm of Bees

June 15, 2010

Was doing a nice long road ride the other day.  I was coasting during a recovery break taking in the views around me.  I subconsciously was batting away these bugs that kept flying into me.  Soon it became apparent that these were not bugs, but honey bees.  Before I could brake I flew right into the swam.  I don’t mean 10-20 bees.  I’m talking about the kind that we see in cartoons that form shapes.  It was a black cloud of bees.  As soon as I entered I was out the other side.  I stopped to watch the swarm and they continued on their path.  Not one bee sting.

This is the second time in my life I’ve seen a swarm like this.  After some research on the internet as to why they swarm, it became clear that it’s rare to see a swarm.  Has something to do with mating, the queen, relocation, etc.

Fed-Ex vs. UPS

May 28, 2009

Okay here’s the situation, I ordered some clothes from Eastbay on Friday. That same day I ordered pedals from Backcountry (or whatever that new name they gave their mountain bike division). Anyways, I received shipping notification from both later that day. The Eastbay order originated in Wisconsin and Backcountry in Salt Lake City. This information came directly from Fed-Ex and UPS.

Here’s where it gets interesting. Both orders have schedule delivery of the 29th. How is it that it will take a week for my Eastbay order to arrive in Michigan when another order, via UPS, from Utah, will take the same amount of time?

My theory is that Fed-Ex does not want to deliver to quickly otherwise there is no reason to order their other expedited services. It should take at most four days. I know we had a holiday but Fed-Ex still moves packages they just don’t deliver on holidays. When I order from Zappos, they ship out of Lexington, KY using UPS. I get my order in two days. This supports my theory that Fed-Ex is just sitting on my order.

I Can Finally Post Again

April 20, 2009

I’ve been having a hell of a time getting live writer to work with my blog.   Ever since I updated wordpress, things crapped out on me.  Sorry to those that subscribe and received a 100 feeds since I kept posting to fix the error.

Do You Twitter?

April 6, 2009

I do not twitter for a couple reasons.

First,  my friends don’t want to know what I’m doing at every single minute nor do I care what they are doing. If I want to know what they are up to, I’ll just text or call them and ask.

Second, it’s a privacy invasion.  There are programs out there that can locate, via gps, people who twitter that are by you.  It shows their name and your picture.  This can put you in a bad position, particular young people.  It’s never a good idea to invite strangers into your life like that.

Maybe one day I’ll find a productive use for twitter.  For now it’s just annoying to hear about it.  I’d like to get a shirt that says “No I dont Twitter so STFU”  or better yet “Can I touch your Twitters”  :)

Team Gupster vs. Facebook

March 13, 2009

I think I am going to leave TG here for a bit.  Facebook importing is anything but user friendly and I would have close to 4 years of posts to import.  Too busy to do all that.

Thinking About Merging Blog With Facebook

I am thinking about either merging blog or creating facebook group.  If you still want to follow it, you can click on my facebook icon and add me as friend.

Arm In A Brace :(

March 1, 2009

Feel like I haven’t been on here in awhile.  Still get a lot of visitors, it must be my stunning good looks.  ;)

Despite not posting my training log, I am putting in the hours.  Teaching is taking up MUCH more time than I anticipated so I always feel like I’m running around like a chicken with no head.

(disclaimer:  I’ve never seen a chicken with no head but I hear they freak out and run around, which is the part I can relate too).

I went to the doctor on Friday and they gave me two options to fix my Ulnar nerve (numb pinky and ring finger).  I can wear a brace for a month and hopefully that fixes it or a simple surgery where they release the pressure.  At most I’d be down a week.  I guess that’s good news, not much of an interuption.  I can still ride and I taught spin class on Friday, I just take the brace off.

Have a brace that keeps your arm straight is awkward.  You’d be surprised at how many times you actually bend your arm.  I do have a funny story.  I am on an Peanut M&M kick right now.  I poured some in my hand and went to throw them in my mouth, but with the brace I couldn’t bend my arm so they ended up in the backseat where Hank (My dog) was more than excited to receive them.  I was laughing so hard I thought I’d have to pull over.  What an idiot I can be.  LOL.

I received an email request on putting together a training video.  I never really thought of that but it intrigued me.  I may do that just for the fun of it.  I’m not sure where I’ll find the time though.

Also, my doctor put me on sleeping medication to help with my insomia. These things are awesome.  I wake up around at 4am for the gym completely energized.  On days I don’t workout, I get up at 7am, wide awake and energized.  I bought a case of 6-hour energy bottles but haven’t touched them.  I’ve never felt so rested, relaxed and energized. I love them.

Anyways, it’s spring break so I don’t have to teach this week so I may make a workout video and post it here so you can all laugh at me.  I dont even have a camcorder.  Should be interesting.

Busy Week

January 8, 2009

I’m teaching a couple classes at local university and with classes starting this week I am struggling to keep up with anything that has to do with my personal life. After Thursday things should settle down for me since I don’t teach on Fridays.

Blog Updated

December 26, 2008

As you can see I’ve made some updates to my blog.  The most obvious is the addition of a banner.  Not 100% sure I like this particular banner, but it may work for now.  I also changed the font color and increased the size of the font slightly.  There are also ‘tags’ located on the right side bar.   That should help single out specific posts.  I had to go through endless number of posts and add tags to each.  That took some time.  Been a long time since I used CSS code so it takes a bit for me to update it.

Wish Gas Was This Cheap During…

November 28, 2008

race season.  Thanks to Quicken I can track all my expenses, unfortunately, it makes me depressed.  July 14, it cost me $78.28 to fill up my 2007 Nissan Altima.  Yesterday, at $1.59, it cost me $23.74.

1 Political Statement

September 4, 2008

I will not get into politics on this blog, however I would like to say one thing.  I find it amazing and discouraging that out of the 300,000,000+ people in America, Obama and McCain are the best two candidates for President.

Computer Issues

August 13, 2008

Finally have my computer back and running.  Caught a nasty virus that has taken me FOREVER to get rid of.  I was up until 3:30am last night working on it, and that was after two days of work as well.  UGH!

I have the Fort Custer TT race this Sunday.  I am second in points but very close.  To win this series I need to either win this race OR finish at least two spots ahead of the guy leading now.  Considering the competition he’s given me, this is an up hill battle for me.  I will definitely leave it all on the trail.

I am still trying to find pictures from my last two triathlons so you can see what near death looks like.  :)

Weather

June 9, 2008

I have become very frustrated with the weather.  Seems like it’s raining every day and on the days it doesn’t rain their is a 15-20mph head wind.  Rain takes away riding on the road and takes away mountain biking until the trail dries (1-2 days).  When it’s not raining, to ride on the road you have to fight a strong head wind that makes the ride miserable.

Looks like the rain is suppose to stop tomorrow morning.  After three days of HEAVY rain, it will be a few days to let the trails dry out.  Some trails drain faster than others, but those are 45+ minutes away.
