Back From Colorado

April 9, 2008

Was a great trip.  Weather was amazing and the snow was perfect.  My face was fried from the sun.  There was a sign at every chairlift that read “Got Sunscreen?”  I read that all day long, but never asked myself if I had sunscreen.  Ouch.

Crested Butte has a tremendous amount of snow, I’ll post pictures later.  When we arrived at the condo, the association had dug a path to the front door.  The snow banks were taller than me.  It will be July before the snow melts.

Denver had no snow and I passed a few trail heads where people were mountain biking.  I really wish I could have rented a bike one day and hit the trails.  Maybe one day.  I did manage to get out on the local trail yesterday.  Felt GREAT to be outside instead of on a trainer.  I have no real structured workout this week.  Right now I do not plan on racing this weekend, instead I’ll do next weekends race.  Really looking forward to it.

Bye Bye

I’m off to Colorado for a week of Snowboarding.  You peeps have a good week.

Snowboarding Trip

March 31, 2008

I leave on Wednesday for four days of snowboarding in Colorado.  :)   That means I’m pretty much R & R when it comes to riding.  I’ll do some power rides on Tuesday but that will be all I have time for.  I return late Sunday.

Technically, I should be in ‘Race’ period since my first race is the 13th.  I’m not 100% I’ll do the race since the trails are a mess right now so nobody can really ride on them.  I’d like to dust off my mountain bike before I bring it for a race.  Hopefully the weather improves so the trails can drain.

Regardless, race season officially starts next week.  Wooohoo!

I’m hurtin for certain

February 7, 2008

I’ve had no choice but to back off this week.  Monday I had to spend the night icing my knees.  I’m not sure what’s causing the pain.  My shoes have all been sized and properly fitted.  I think it may have to do with snowboarding.  My snowboard boots were a size too big, which I didn’t realize.  This caused foot pain, which I could reduce by taking out the insoles.  I think that caused my knee pains.  I purchased new boots lastnight.  I hope those work because they ain’t cheap.

I didn’t ride Tuesday so my knees had another day of rest.  Yesterday I had the intentions of doing spin but did a strong leg workout.  I also swam a few laps and played basketball.  Today I woke up with legs that are just TOAST.  I want to rent a wheel chair.  I think the swimming did them in.  If I’m ever on a ship that starts sinking, I’m going down with the ship.  My swimming sucks.

Tonight I’m going to do a 90 minutes E2 ride and then Friday I’m going to do the Zone of  Discomfort ride, as shown in the weekly plan.  I’m not going to get the hours I need, but my legs/knees need the R & R.

My Struggle With Hours

February 3, 2008

I schedule a lot of hours on the weekend because there is more flexibility.  The issue I’m running into is snowboarding takes up so much time that I can’t get on the bike.  I boarded all day yesterday so I had no saddle time.  I did cancel on today’s boarding just so I could get on my bike.  My goal today is to put in 3 one hour sessions.  So during the superbowl, I’ll most likely be on the bike.

Going forward, I’m going to try and maximize my hours during the week.  This takes pressure of my weekends and gives me some RR time where I can enjoy the whole day.  Snowboarding still beats the legs pretty good, but for me that’s still RR.  :)

Update & Snowboarding

December 10, 2007

Well, I’m holding up to my weight lifting schedule.  I’ve started to pick up the leg exercises.  You learn quickly which muscles you don’t use mountain biking.  Some days I hurt all over.  I’ve also been playing a lot of basketball, which is fun and gives me a different cardio workout.

I haven’t touched the bike since November 11.  Per my training schedule, I’m suppose to start spin class next week, however I think I’ll keep skipping spin.  Instead I’ll just spend an hour on my trainer.  Once January hits I do so much spin I’d rather take a longer break from it so I’m not burnt out on it like I am now.

There is snow on the ground so I’ll start snowboarding this weekend.   Tonight I’ll wax my board and dust all my equipment off.    I’m a big fan of Burton just because growing up, Jake Burton was the man.  Not too many other brands interest me, however I am keeping my eye on Rome snowboards.  I am wishing I picked up a board during the off-season when prices were lower.  I’d love to try one of their boards.  I also hear their bindings are incredible.  Not too many companies can compete with Burton’s binding line, but I hear Rome puts up a good fight.  The one thing I will say about Burton is that their clothing line is getting a little too crazy for me.  I ventured away from them and bought some snow-pants from 686.  Burton’s luggage is awesome..expensive…but awesome.

Speaking of Burton, let’s talk about Shaun White.  I don’t really understand why he is considered the man who ruined snowboarding.  All I hear is that White took away the core meaning of snowboarding and made it too commercial.  First, you have to respect his talent.  Seriously, he is amazing and he has brought snowboarding competition to a new level.  Second, White did what every single person on the planet would do: he took the money from his sponsors.  White killed in the Olympics, which really put snowboarding in the living rooms of the world.   Because of that, large corporate America came knocking at his door.  No longer is he just sponsored by snowboarding related companies.  Thus he is blamed for making boarding too commercial.  I’d like to know one person who would turn down the money White received.

Breckenridge 2007

March 7, 2007

Another snowboard trip, this time to Colorado.  Great trip, although prefer Keystone over Breckenridge.

Park City, Utah March 2006

March 27, 2006

It’s snowboard season, so off to Park City we went.  Awesome trip and had a great time.  Especially the hour hike to the summit for some great backcountry boarding.  Slight issue:  I broke my ankel on the last day.  The goodnews is that I made it down the summit, which took 90 minutes.  It hurt bad.  I also stopped in the terrain park to ride some rails.  That hurt too.  I actually put in 10 hours of boarding on a broken ankle.  The next morning I was in terrible pain.  The doc was not to happy with me.  Here are some pics from Utah:
