GO GO GO GO GO GO

August 19, 2008

That’s what my life feels like right now.  Three straight weeks with races and on top of that I am moving out of my house in a few days and still have to find a place to live.  I want to rent for now because I’d like to move out to Utah or Colorado.

This past Sunday was the final race in the Tailwind Time Trial Series.  I had to either win the race or finish two ahead of the guy leading the series in order for me to win it all.  Well, I took 2nd place and the guy leading took 4th so I did it.  I won the 2008 Tailwind Time Trial Series.  New_IMG_6283

For me that’s a big accomplishment, especially for how much time I’ve put into training.  There is still the Championship Point Series, which has another race this Saturday.  Going to be a hectic week.  I have to train for the race, find a place to live, Friday is my fantasy football draft night and Saturday a race.

Normally I post up my training log for the week, but I just don’t have time.  I know I’m riding hard tomorrow and easy on Thursday.  I’ll take Friday off and try to get to the race a few hours early so I can do an easy ride around the trail.  At least that’s the plan.  I’m sure something will come up.  Here are some photos from the Time Trial Series.

T.K. Lawless Time Trial Results

June 22, 2008

tailwindPlacement: 1st Place
Time Trial Series Standings: 2nd Place

number plateWell, my first win of the season.  :)   Pretty excited about this because not only was this a trail I’ve never ridden, it was also one that played to my weakness (tight single track).  It didn’t fully expose my weakness since it was a slower course with a ton of switchbacks.  I’ve also been working hard at improving my braking so I can be faster on such trails.  Appears to be working.

Turned out be a VERY nice day, however there was a down pour for about 10 minutes, but then sunny again.  I was worried about the rain since I took off near the end of the start category, so everybody ahead of me would be close to finishing after the rain started.  Rain really slows the course down, which hurts in a TT race format.  Anyway’s, everything turned out just fine.

Owassipe Time Trial Results

May 19, 2008

tailwind

Placement: 2nd Place
TT Standings: 5th Place (I’ve only done one race)

IMG_0403I almost didn’t do this race because the weather people were calling for rain (I checked 12 hours before the race).  Not a cloud in the sky and around 55 degrees.  It was windy and that definitely made it feel like 40 degrees.
I was freezing before and after the race.  Not so much during the race.  I saw some people in long sleeves and leg warmers.  I bet they over heated on the trail.

It was another good finish for me, however I could have done SO much better if I had known the trail I was riding on.  This was my first time riding on the trail so I had no idea what to expect.  This caused me to be a little ‘brake’ happy, especially on fast down hill sections.  I did almost go into a river or lake.  Fast down hill and the trail took a sharp left.  I locked up both brakes and even used my feet, but the trail was leaf covered so I just slid about 10 feet.  My front tire stopped one inch from disaster.  With good trail knowledge, I bet I could have shave off 2-3 minutes, if not more.  That would easily put me in first.  At $4.00 a gallon of gas, pre-riding a course is becoming a luxury.   (I’m in the red).

2008 Race Schedule

November 14, 2007

Well the dates have been released. I had 9 races this year, however next year there will be more. I labeled races “A” for high priority, “B” for medium priority and “C” for low priority (may skip altogether). Here is the schedule:

April 13: Pontiac Lake Time Trial Series (B)
April 20: Yankee Sprints TT: MMBA Race (A)
May 4: Fort Custer XC: MMBA Race (A)
May 18: Owassippe TT: Time Trial Series (C)
June 1: Hanson Hills XC: MMBA Race (A)
June 22: TK Lawless TT: Time Trial Series (B)
July 12: Boyne XC Marathon: MMBA Race (A)
July 27: Stoney Creek TT: MMBA Race/Time Trial Series (B)
July 28: Big M Race: USA Cycling Series (highly doubt it)
August 9: Ore To Shore: (highly doubt it)
August 17: Fort Custer TT: Time Trial Series (A)
August 23: Maybury XC: MMBA Race (A)
September 21: Addision Oaks: MMBA Race (C)
September 28: Pando XC: MMBA Race (A)
October 18: Peak to Peak (C)
November 8: Iceman Cometh (A)

My priority is MMBA CPS races with a secondary priority in the Tailwind Time Trial Series. I have 8 priority ‘A’ races, which are ones I will do for sure. I have 3 priority ‘B’ races, which are ones that I will plan on doing, however if something happens and I miss it, no biggie. I have 3 priority ‘C’ races, which are races I’ll only do if I’m bored for if something else happens to a priority ‘A’ or ‘B’ race. The Big M and Ore to Shore race, as of now won’t happen. I’d have to have a lot of free time to do those two races, especially considering the drive.
